Community Fire
Terms of Service and Acceptable Use
Version 2026-08-12
1. Agreement and roles
These terms apply to use of Community Fire, operated by Community Fire Platform Operator. A paying community customer appoints administrators who control its users, boundaries, incidents, resources, and alert configuration. End users receive access through that community and must follow administrator instructions and these terms.
2. Safety limitation
3. Accounts and community access
Users must provide accurate information, protect their credentials, and notify an administrator of suspected misuse. Access requests require a valid community code and administrator approval. Accounts are personal and may not be shared. Community administrators are first-line support for their end users.
4. Acceptable use
You must use the service lawfully and only for legitimate community fire monitoring, reporting, preparedness, resource management, and response coordination. You must not:
- submit knowingly false, misleading, malicious, or duplicate reports;
- harass users, expose personal information without authority, or misuse location information;
- attempt unauthorised access, probe security, interfere with service operation, evade plan limits, or introduce harmful code;
- scrape, resell, or misuse Google, Firebase, NASA FIRMS, weather, map, or other third-party content contrary to provider terms;
- represent the app or its data as officially endorsed by NASA, NOAA, Google, emergency services, or government authorities; or
- use automated alerts as the only safety-critical communication channel.
5. Community responsibilities
Community customers must appoint suitable administrators, maintain accurate boundaries and contacts, manage user access promptly, configure alert recipients responsibly, protect community codes, train users, establish fallback communications, and comply with POPIA and other applicable laws. Administrators must review reports fairly and avoid using reliability scores as the sole basis for safety decisions.
6. Subscription and service
Plan limits, pricing, billing period, onboarding services, and any response commitments are set out in the customer's order or invoice. Unless an order states otherwise, support is provided during published business hours and no 24-hour service level is promised. Past-due, suspended, or cancelled subscriptions may become read-only so existing records remain available while new changes are blocked.
7. Third-party services and data
The service depends on hosting, internet connectivity, device services, Google Maps and Weather, Firebase, NASA FIRMS, email, and optional WhatsApp links. Those services have separate terms, quotas, and availability. NASA FIRMS data is attributed to NASA and its MODIS/VIIRS sources; NASA and NOAA do not sponsor or endorse Community Fire.
8. Content and intellectual property
Users and communities remain responsible for content they submit and grant the operator permission to host, process, display, back up, and transmit it as needed to provide the service. The platform software, design, and branding remain the operator's property. Public-domain or third-party data remains subject to its source attribution and terms.
9. Suspension and termination
Access may be restricted for security threats, unlawful use, serious abuse, non-payment, provider requirements, or material breach. Communities should export or request required records before final termination. Record deletion remains subject to lawful retention, incident-history, backup, and dispute requirements.
10. Warranty and liability
The service is provided with reasonable care but without a guarantee that every detection, alert, location, forecast, or transmission will be accurate or available. To the extent permitted by South African law, the operator is not responsible for decisions made solely from unconfirmed app information or for failures outside its reasonable control. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
11. Privacy, changes, and law
The Privacy Notice explains personal-information processing. Material changes will receive a new version and reasonable notice. These terms are governed by South African law, subject to any mandatory consumer protections and the dispute terms in the customer's signed order.
12. Contact
Contact the platform operator or write to the configured business address. End users should first contact their community administrator at their community support contact.
